Camille Baturo is a painter of floral still life and abstracted landscapes, based in Bangalow, Northern NSW. Inspired by the bold colour of the post-impressionists, in particular Matisse & Bonnard, her paintings attempt to capture an immersive experience of being amongst the explosion of colour and pattern of flowers in their natural state.

Working with oil, she manipulates the paint to suggest movement and texture with a combination of thin washes and layering of broad brushstrokes. At times the flowers appear to be cascading in an uncontained tumble of colour, allowing the subject matter to revel in their own effortless, raw beauty. At other times, the flowers are captured in traditional still life, showcasing the petals in their various stages of unfurling, composed and elegantly arranged in a vase.

Through her subject matter, Camille is able to explore her intuitive use of colour as well as her observations on the lyrical beauty of nature’s lifecycle.
